From June 23 to 25, 2025, the San Diego Chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-SD) successfully completed its annual three-day Cultural Ambassador Training, hosted by the Wisdom Culture and Education Organization (WCEO). A formal closing ceremony, held on June 25, celebrated the 43 student ambassadors who completed the program—consisting of 25 returning members and 18 new participants.
This year's training centered around FASCA's core values: leadership, service, culture, and heritage. Designed and led by experienced WCEO instructors, the curriculum combined hands-on team-building activities with meaningful cultural exploration, helping students strengthen essential skills in teamwork, communication, and leadership while deepening their connection to their Taiwanese roots.
On the first day, students were introduced to the FASCA program's mission and values. Icebreaker activities helped foster camaraderie, as participants formed four teams, each developing a team cheer and identity. The first cultural lesson encouraged students to reflect on their personal heritage, prompting a family roots project that explored the role of cultural identity in shaping who they are. New members also had the opportunity to engage in a Q&A with returning ambassadors, gaining valuable insights into what it means to thrive in FASCA.
Day two deepened this cultural reflection through the “Exploding Box” project, which symbolized identity in layers—from Taiwan as a nation, to family origins, to personal narratives. Working in pairs fostered deeper personal connections among members. The day concluded with a series of dynamic team challenges focused on communication, collaboration, and perseverance. One of the most symbolic activities, titled "Jumping into FASCA," required participants to physically fit their entire team into a small box. After almost 40 attempts, the group ultimately succeeded—highlighting the power of determination, trust, and unity. This activity became a defining moment of the training, embodying the shared spirit of growth and resilience.
The final day of training focused on leadership through service. A powerful reflective session helped students examine their privileges and their capacity to create positive impact in both large and small ways. Additional team challenges emphasized accountability and growth through failure. Throughout the training, students also rehearsed a group dance, which they performed during the closing ceremony to demonstrate their teamwork and dedication.
The training concluded with a heartfelt ceremony attended by special guest-Director of Culture Center of T.E.C.O. in Los Angeles (Santa Ana), Ms. Betty Hsiao, families, friends, supporters, and members of the local Taiwanese community. Through performances, visual projects, and personal reflections, the trainees shared the growth they experienced over the three days.
FASCA-SD Chapter President Willem Huang reflected, “This training helped me learn more about myself. Through the challenges and lessons, I stepped out of my comfort zone and demonstrated leadership, cooperation, and commitment to help FASCA feel more united.” His remarks echoed the transformative experience shared by both new and returning members.
Overall, the 2025 Cultural Ambassador Training was more than an orientation—it was a meaningful journey of self-discovery, cultural pride, and collective growth. As the new year begins, FASCA-SD stands ready to serve the community with renewed purpose, stronger leadership, and deeper cultural understanding.
