On May 10, 2025, the San Diego Chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-SD) proudly participated in the Taiwan Heritage Week Festival at the Taiwanese American Community Center by hosting a vibrant vendor booth. The event served as both a fundraiser and a cultural outreach opportunity, allowing members to share the flavors and traditions of Taiwan with the local community.
Preparation for the event began weeks in advance at the April Monthly Meeting, where members hand-crafted unique Taiwan-themed keychains under the leadership of Hsueh-Heng Lu. These creative designs, featuring symbols such as boba milk tea and Taipei 101, quickly became popular souvenirs during the event.
In the days leading up to the Festival, FASCA-SD members, parents, and mentors worked together to prepare a variety of beloved Taiwanese foods. The food team, led by Katharine Tsaur, coordinated the cooking of Taiwanese Sticky Rice, Braised Pork Rice, tea eggs, Mapo tofu, and hot grass jelly. On the day of the event, freshly brewed milk tea and black tea with handmade boba were served alongside iconic Taiwanese beverages like Apple Sidra and Sarsaparilla. Tanghulu was also made fresh on-site throughout the day, attracting a steady stream of curious visitors.
In addition to food and keychains, Joyce Chen led the effort to design and prepare handmade tote bags and pencil cases, adding even more cultural flair and creativity to the booth’s offerings. These artistic items reflected the talents and dedication of FASCA-SD’s youth members. Consulting Mentor Irene Wang oversaw and supported the creative projects, providing guidance throughout the preparation process and ensuring each product showcased the spirit of Taiwanese culture.
While some members managed the booth, others circulated around the festival grounds to promote FASCA and sell handmade keychains, engaging with visitors and encouraging cultural exchange.
The event was a resounding success—many popular items sold out quickly, and the booth remained busy throughout the day. More importantly, the Festival provided an invaluable platform for FASCA to share Taiwanese culture, foster cross-cultural appreciation, and embody their core values of service, leadership, and cultural preservation.
Through teamwork, initiative, and community spirit, FASCA-SD once again demonstrated its commitment to building a meaningful and lasting legacy within the Taiwanese American community.
