San Diego, CA – On May 16, 2025, the San Diego Chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors (FASCA-SD) returned to Doyle Elementary School’s International Festival to support an engaging Taiwanese cultural booth organized by Doyle’s Taiwanese parent community. This ongoing collaboration offered festival-goers an interactive and meaningful way to explore Taiwanese heritage through games, cultural displays, and community engagement.
The booth featured three hands-on traditional games—Taiwanese pinball, diabolo (Chinese yo-yo), and jianzi (shuttlecock kicking)—that attracted hundreds of excited children and families throughout the event. Two of the pinball machines were lovingly handmade by Doyle Taiwanese parents, who also generously provided all the prizes and sweet treats enjoyed by participants.
This year’s FASCA-SD project was led by student ambassador Conor Sung, with Eileen Wu and Toby Chen serving as co-leaders. The team was guided and supported by mentor Irene Wang, who helped coordinate student involvement and logistics.
“The games were simple and fun, and the prizes made it even more exciting,” shared one young attendee. Children eagerly returned to the booth throughout the afternoon, often bringing their friends and family along to share the experience.
In addition to the games, the booth featured a large, vibrant display introducing iconic Taiwanese foods and travel destinations. FASCA-SD members actively engaged with attendees by explaining the cultural significance of the activities, guiding children through the games, distributing informational flyers, and keeping the booth running smoothly.
The event was a heartwarming display of teamwork between students, mentors, and parents. FASCA-SD members helped cover for one another, assisted with crowd flow, and ensured that everyone—from participants to volunteers—felt included and appreciated.
Through this collaborative effort, FASCA-SD once again demonstrated its mission to promote Taiwanese culture, encourage youth leadership, and build meaningful connections within the community.
